AOPA, A4A, NBAA and Realtors® Among Several New Supporters of the “Know Before You Fly” Campaign

More than Half a Dozen New Organizations Commit to Spreading the Word about Safe and Responsible Flying

WASHINGTON — The Know Before You Fly campaign today announced a broad list of new supporters, including leading aviation associations—Airlines for America (A4A), the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA). In addition, the National Association of Realtors® joined as a supporter of the campaign as well as the two largest manufacturers and distributors of hobby products—Hobbico and Horizon Hobby.

“These organizations represent a diverse group of stakeholders all with an interest in UAS and we welcome their support,” said Brian Wynne, President and CEO of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). “We’re especially pleased to see the manned aviation community embrace the campaign and help us spread the message about safe and responsible flying. Our combined efforts will make the entire National Airspace System safer for all users—both manned and unmanned.”

AUVSI is a co-founder of the Know Before You Fly campaign along with the Academy of Model Aeronautics and the Small UAV Coalition. The campaign was launched in December 2014 in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

In a blog post to its members about the campaign, A4A wrote “The future of aviation undoubtedly includes UAS, remotely piloted aircraft often referred to as drones. That said, it is important to remember that airspace is shared space—U.S. airlines alone operate nearly 30,000 flights per day—and it is imperative that safety remains the number one priority for all of us.”

The Consumer Electronics Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association joined as supporters of the Know Before You Fly campaign in January. For more information on the campaign, visit or follow @FlyResponsibly on Twitter.
